Oars Up! - Dragonboats in Manila Bay

This just in. Wendy went to Baywalk Roxas Blvd this Saturday morning to watch cousin Pia in her very first Rowing competition. After several weeks of early morning practices, Pia is race ready, uniformed and raring to go.

Herewith are some nice shots and a short vid for you readers out there. Check this out specially if you have not seen a dragonboat regatta before.

Golden dragon heads, shiny oars and sweaty rowers on a hot and balmy Manila Bay morning. See Pia amidship cladded with lavander Drago Pilipinas uniform.

Perfect day for a rowing competition. Flat water, no wind and a gleaming sun. Mainit-init pa!

London Boy Marco, Pia's son, enjoying Baywalk on his baon Tryke. He looks like his granpa Benjie...eyn it? :)

Taho on a straw? That's new to me, man. You can see here Marco loves it and does not want to be bothered. Let's give him a little space people.

Support system is key to a great rower's success. From left to right, Katt, Tita Nona, Leah, Mikey, Nemal-Ben and Rower Pia. Oops, and Marco at the bottom. Congrats Pia, well done.

Wendy flanked by Katt and Nemal-Ben.

More rowing pics and the video later. I promise. :)

What to do when you're in Bora?

Off we went on our ATV's to see the island. These clanky little quads are P1500 an hour and they can be worth it if you have a good guide. We had a blast. That's me with the mask and yellow tabo and Benj ahead of me following our guide.

The only way to get here is by an ATV or foot. The tricycles do not come up here. Sorry.

View from Mount Luho . This is the highest point of Boracay Island. A nice old local will greet and serve you with fresh buko juice cold and sweet.

More Vids! Click here to see Olympic sailing champion Steve Benjamin briefing us at the start of the Mnl-Bora race on sail inventory...
